Human Rights & Fair Employment

Respect for people at work, including the prevention of modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking and child labour.

Effective 20 September 2026

Scope and dignity

This policy applies to WAB’s employment, recruitment and training activities. Managers must communicate its requirements to employees and relevant contractors. Suppliers and labour providers are expected to apply equivalent protections in work connected with WAB.

Voluntary work and fair recruitment

Modern slavery, forced or bonded labour and human trafficking are prohibited. Workers must understand and freely accept their employment terms and remain free to leave, subject to reasonable lawful notice. WAB and its recruitment providers must not charge workers recruitment fees, demand deposits, retain original identity documents or use threats, debt or withheld wages to keep someone working. Any necessary copies of identity documents must be handled securely and only for legitimate purposes.

Child labour and young people

Child labour is prohibited. Verify age before work or training, using appropriate evidence, and check the applicable minimum age and education requirements. As WAB’s standard, nobody under 18 may undertake hazardous work, including during training. Lawful education and supervised training must be age appropriate, protect schooling and wellbeing, and exclude dangerous tasks. A training label must never be used to conceal child labour.

Fair terms and working conditions

Provide clear terms, pay agreed wages on time and meet applicable wage, benefit, working-hour, rest and leave requirements. Explain any lawful deductions. Overtime must be lawful, agreed and recorded. Provide appropriate safety information and protection for the work, including for temporary workers and trainees. Employment arrangements must not be used to evade worker protections.

Respect and workers’ voices

Make employment decisions on relevant abilities and requirements, without unlawful discrimination. Bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, violence and degrading treatment are prohibited. Respect freedom of association and collective bargaining, and do not penalise workers for exercising these rights or raising concerns honestly. Listen to concerns through WAB’s designated reporting arrangements.

Protection and remedy

Act promptly on suspected exploitation, prioritising the affected person’s safety and privacy. If child labour is identified, remove the child from danger and seek a safe remedy with appropriate support, considering education and the child’s best interests. Simply dismissing a child is not an adequate response. Where WAB causes or contributes to harm, provide or cooperate in remedy. Address supplier concerns through proportionate corrective action that avoids further harm to workers.
