Environmental Responsibility

Careful handling of materials, prevention of pollution and responsible management of workshop waste.

Purpose and responsibility

WAB Engineering is committed to reducing the environmental impacts of its maintenance, manufacturing, parts supply and training activities. This policy applies to work under our control, including work at customer sites. Management will define responsibilities and provide suitable instructions. Personnel and contractors must follow agreed controls and promptly report spills, leaks and other environmental concerns.

Plan and prevent pollution

Before work begins, we will consider the materials involved, likely waste, nearby drains and other potential routes of contamination. Oils, fuels, solvents and other chemicals must be identified and stored in suitable, labelled containers with appropriate containment. Incompatible materials must be kept apart. Handling and transfer methods must limit leaks and spills, with attention to supplier safety information.

Manage waste responsibly

Waste must be separated according to its nature and risks. Used oil, contaminated filters and absorbents, batteries and chemical residues require suitable storage and handling. We will not deliberately discharge these materials onto land or into drains or water, or dispose of them through uncontrolled burning. Reuse, recovery or disposal must follow applicable requirements through suitable providers whose relevant permissions and capability have been checked. Where no suitable disposal route has been confirmed, waste must be kept safely while management arranges a lawful solution. Waste handovers must be recorded.

Use resources with care

We will seek practical ways to reduce avoidable material use, water and energy consumption and waste. Repair, reuse and recovery will be considered where technically suitable and safe, without compromising agreed specifications. Equipment operation and work methods must consider unnecessary exhaust emissions, dust and noise. At customer sites, we will agree who supplies containers, controls storage and arranges waste collection before the relevant work starts.

Respond and improve

Spill response arrangements must reflect the materials and risks involved. Personnel must protect themselves, raise the alarm and act only within their training and safe capability. Management will review environmental incidents, arrange appropriate corrective actions and any required notifications, and review this policy at least annually. Environmental claims must accurately reflect our activities and evidence.
